Hi there,
I'm a Cornishman who grew up in Penzance and Helston. I currently live and work in High Wycombe, about thirty-five miles west of London, but will be moving back to the Duchy within the next five years.
First of all ... great site! I've been a student of Cornish myths and legends since I was 'small as a grammersow' (a grammersow is a woodlouse or cheesebug in South-West Cornwall. In North Cornwall, they call them chuggipegs!). Together with my brother and some friends of mine from the art and film SFX world, I'm currently writing an illustrated book of Cornish tales with a Roald Dahl/Harry Potter/21st century spin to them. Your site has been a constant source of great info and has saved me from wading through my huge bookcase of Cornwall-related books. If I get published, can I quote your site as a reference?
And now, some interesting coincidences ... in one of your intros, you mention a poet named Robert Herrick. Herrick was a 'faerie poet', one of a small group of gay poets who used to meet secretly under this guise as homosexuality was frowned upon by the church and royalty. Would you believe that when my late father was researching my family tree, he discovered that Herrick had dedicated a poem ('Queen Mab', I think it's called) to one of my anscestors, suspected to be his boyfriend!
Last of all, your name Rowe. Yes, there are thousands of Rowes in Cornwall and I was involved with one branch of the family tree at one time. My ex-wife's sister married Colin Rowe, head of the Cornish Linen Service; a multi-million pound laundry company that services nearly all of the guest houses, hotels and hospitals in the Duchy. So who knows ... in a tenuous, marriage-tied way, we may even be related!

Anyway, enough rambling. Terrific site. Keep up the good work. Any way I can help, just e-mail me. I have a very large library of Cornish books and an intimate knowledge of the place.

All the best or, as we say in Kernuak (Cornish), "Dew genough why".

Steve

Just stumbled upon your site - very nice. I will be coming back to read more. One comment I have to make.... about how the Cornish refer to Lands End. I have never in my life heard Lands End referred to as THE Lands End by a Cornishman. Site is looking good, though - I'm always pleased to find stuff like this.

Well done on your site, full of information, but i wonder if you can help us?
We are researching Celtic Myths throughout the UK, and feel that the Cornish Celts have been left our as far as being recognised as one of the more powerfull of the Celtic Clans.
Do you have, or do you know where we can obtain information on local tales and legends? All the information gained will be added to our web site for all to learn, which is currently under construction.
I hope you can help in this matter, but if not, no probs. Thanks once again for a great site.
