Stay a While...

These images below are thumbnail images. Click on a thumbnail to load the full size version which resides at The University of Sweden.

I have found the Swedish site to be very slow. The Hamburg site is usually much faster.

The full size images are very large. I give the size of the full scale image file is in bytes. Even the thumbnails are large enough to be usable. I have divided Alan Lee's artwork into more than one page because of its extensiveness and the size of the thumbnail images.

You can right-click either the thumbnail or full size image and save a copy to your system. Please do this if you want a copy. Please do not reference this page on Gandolf dot Com in an anchor tag; use your copy instead.

lee35.jpg Gandalf Before Theoden

Brad Spenser says:

In this painting, one would suspect that this is Gandalf and a hobbit before a King. It could not be Theoden, as the Hobbits did not meet Theoden in his hall, therefore, it must be Gandalf and Pippin before Denethor. Note that Gandalf is holding the two halves of Boromir's horn.

This painting is featured in
Tolkien's World .

Gathering for battle, the forces of the West meet on battle with that of the East.

Stern now was Eomer's mood, and his mind clear again. He let blow the horns to rally all men to his banner that could come thither; for he thought to make a great shield-wall at the last, and stand, and fight there on foot till all fell, and do deeds of song on the fields of Pelennor, thought no man should be left in the West to remember the last King of the Mark.
