Land's End

Located at the southwest end of the southwest end of the British island, Land's End is just that. The painter Turner painted it. There used to be an inn referred to as the first and last house in England.

The photo shows the Armed Knight and the Longships lighthouse. The Longships, several miles out, is a greenstone and quartz island. The original lighthouse was built in 1795.

Offshore, between Land's End and the Scillies Isles, is supposed to lie the lost land of Lyonesse, referred to in Arthurian literature. According to tradition, a man named Trevilian escaped by horse and was the sole survivor when Lyonesse submerged and was swallowed by the sea.

In old Cornwall, it was usually called "The Land's End" by the locals, but today it is usually just called "Land'd End".
